I am Seungmock Yang, Chairman of the Institute.

The Republic of Korea now stands at a critical crossroads. Having achieved remarkable progress through rapid industrialization and democratization, we are now confronted with a new set of questions.

Beyond asking how we can continue to grow, we must now reflect more fundamentally on where we are headed and what kind of society we aspire to build.

Distrust between generations, ideological polarization, and conflicts across regions and social classes have created deep divisions throughout our society.

Low birth rates, population aging, declining economic vitality, and the growing sense of uncertainty among younger generations have become structural challenges that cannot be addressed through short-term policy measures alone.

At the same time, rapidly shifting global dynamics and rising geopolitical tensions surrounding the Korean Peninsula are placing even greater constraints on our choices.

Yet moments of crisis have also been moments of transformation.

Time and again, Korea has emerged stronger by confronting reality directly and forging new paths forward.

What we need today is not merely temporary solutions, but a deeper reflection on the values and direction that should guide the future of our nation.

In response to these challenges, RIES is advancing “Project 2030 Re:Public of Korea.”

Through five working groups focused on philosophy and values, social innovation, national competitiveness, market-based principles, and public safety and national security, we seek to present a new vision for Korea in 2030.

Moving beyond ideological divisions and partisan thinking, we aim to help shape a freer, fairer, and more sustainable future for the Republic of Korea.

Across the fields of politics, the economy, society, and security, we will continue to propose practical and actionable alternatives while fostering an open forum where diverse perspectives can engage constructively and contribute to new social consensus.

As an independent and nonpartisan think tank, RIES will remain committed not to any particular ideology or political interest, but solely to the sustainable future of the Republic of Korea.
